Backup: Access, Create, Export, Import

To access the Backup Center of Total Launcher:

  1. Enter Edit Mode > Launcher options > Backup center

To create a new backup:

  1. Enter Edit Mode > Launcher options > Backup center
  2. Press the “+” in the lower right screen area
  3. In the opening dialog, the default title shows as “backup_YYMMDD”. Enter the title of your backup, using an underscore (“_”) for any blank space in the title. Press OK. The backup file is saved to Total Launcher's default location on the device at Android >; Data >; com.ss.launcher2. This file location is accessible only on devices that have root access. However, the backup listing visible in the dialog provides access to the backup.
  4. The just saved backup with the title entered is now shown in the list of available backups.

To export an existing backup to a specific folder or cloud:

  1. Navigate to the backup module. See here.
  2. Press and hold the specific backup list item until its icon changes to a “✓.” In the upper right screen area, press the hamburger menu and select Export.
  3. The device's file manager will open. Navigate to the file location of choice and press OK. (Note: For exporting to a cloud, the device file manager must support access to the cloud and have been previously set up.)
  4. Exported backups are the actual backup files in a compressed format (zip) and can be shared with others for import. See below how import backups.

To import a previous exported or shared backup:

  1. For backups stored in Total Launcher's default location on the device:
    1. Navigate to the backup module. See here.
    2. Select the specific backup list item to open a Restore dialog:
  2. The dialog indicates the default of NOT keeping folders and tags. Check the box to maintain them.
  3. Press OK to proceed.
  4. At completion of restore, a notification will flash at the bottom of the screen: “Success”
  5. For backups stored in other local folders or cloud:
    1. Navigate to the backup module. See here.
    2. In the upper right screen area, press the hamburger menu and select “Import backup”.
  6. The device's file manager will open. Navigate to the desired file (local folder or cloud) and tap the backup file (in zip format) to be imported. (Note: For importing from the cloud, the device file manager must support access to the cloud and have been previously set up.)
  7. The selected backup is restored with the selected zip file now included in the Backup Center's file listing. Back out of Backup Center to the restored Total Launcher theme.
  8. At completion of restore, a notification will flash at the bottom of the screen: “Success”

TIP: Total Launcher does not back up any 3rd party widgets. Only the “Application Widget” placeholder on the page or window will be shown after restore.
