How to Use Custom Images in Dynamic Image Activities
Total Launcher has a unique feature which offers image representation of measured activities, such as a clock, weather, ram usage, mobile data status and more. These come with stock images which are suitable but may not visually blend well with every user's setup. This is where customization enters the arena and each Total Launcher user can Imagine it. Make it!
Dynamic Image Categories
Once the setup design concept has been pulled together the user will need to collect or create the images for use in any of the 17 planned dynamic activities:
Dynamic Image Sourcing
The images above are built-in for user selection. Most are gray-scale. If a setup requires alternatives to the built-ins, the steps to accomplish this are outlined below.
To begin, the images to be used must be
- sourced (internet)
- on a thumbdrive/disk, hard drive
- downloaded to the user's device.
Once the location is determined the Launcher and the user's file explorer will provide access to image files
- on a thumbdrive/disk, hard drive
- the user's device storage
It is important to recognize in advance where the access is possible … not internet websites.
Dynamic Image Install
Once sourced and “stored” the Launcher's and device file system will combine to allow the user, while in the dynamic image dialog, to navigate to the location to select and add the desired images. So … make the decision … what images … where are the images … and proceed!
- enter Edit mode
- Select Main Menu
- Select Launcher options
- Select Resources
- Select Images
- To pre-load images:
- If all images on the device are in the same subdirectory and the only files in that that directory it is possible to import all of the in one action:
- In the Resource: Images dialog
- Click the Folder+ icon in the upper right corner
- Navigate to the desired folder and select it
- All images in the folder will be imported
- If the images for import are mixed with other files in the same directory or if the images are in different subdirectories, the better method is to manually import the images one by one
- In the Resource: Images dialog
- Click the “+” icon in the lower right corner
- Navigate to the desired folder and select it
- Click the image for import
- Repeat the preceding steps for each individual image
- Once all images are obtained and placed in Total Launcher’s resources, return to a launcher page
- Enter edit mode
- Object add (+) in upper left corner
- Select graphic
- Select image
- Select default
- Select dynamic image. The dynamic image Add dialog displays.
- The Label element shows the selected dynamic category, but that can be expanded by clicking the downward carrot to display the categories as shown in above on this page.
- Select the category desired (remember to have identified each new image acquired which is to be used for each of the categories existing images which will be replaced)
- Select the measurement level image. An option dialog will open
- select image. (The Resources Image dialog will display thumbnails of all the user-imported images)
- Click on the one wanted for the current dynamic image measurement level
- Repeat the #4© for *each* of the measurement level images desired
- Clip OK
- The user is returned to the launcher page which will now show the new image for the current state of the dynamic category being worked on
- Size and relocate the dynamic image object to the design’s needs (see resizing and movement of object)
Dynamic Image Uses
- Possible considerations
- the status bar area (reference hiding it)
- The dock area
- A columnar or cubed presentation
- Within multiple windows which cyle with a tap
